Honmon Butsuryu Schools

The Mandala on the right is an example of the Yo (Simple) Gohonzon sometimes issued to their members. The calligraphy on the left is not used as a honzon. Both were inscribed by Master Nissen [1817-1890]. The Yo type (on right) is not necessarily the most common Gohonzon used in propagation (the Gohonzn you get prior to receiving a hand inscribed Gohonzon). Many receive a Ten Realms Gohonzon; people who join HBS have the choice of which style they prefer.

HBS is also in possession of three Gohonzons originally inscribed by Nichiren Shonin. The one most noteworthy was inscribed for Nichiji Shonin, one of the six senior disciples, who left for China to spread the Dharma overseas.

They also posses one of the three statues of Nichiren Shonin carved by Nippo while the Daishonin was living. The eye opening done on this Statue was perfomed by Nichiren himself. It resides in their main Temple of Yousenji in Kyoto. After centuries, the incense and candles burned before it has turned it completely black. This is why statues of Nichiren used by HBS members are also colored black.
