Bertie Oliver Worden, eldest son of Edward and Leona Worden, was born November 29, 1898, at the family home northeast of Bayard, and departed this life November 29, 1953. aged 55 years.

He grew to manhood on the farm and until his enlistment traveled over the country, mostly in the west, working and making friends wherever he went.

During World War II he served with the 712th Flexible Gunnery Training Squadron. His health failed and he received a medical discharge. since that time he has made his home with his youngest sister, Mrs. Ethel Gerdsen and family who now live south of Uniontown.

He is survived by four sisters: Mrs. May Talley, Moran; Mrs. Myra Johnson, Bronson; Mrs. Zaida Ross, Bayard; Mrs. Ethel Gerdsen, Uniontown; two brother: Edward Worden of Woodinville, Wahington; John Worden, Greenup, Ill.; and aunt Mrs. Austin Reed, Ottawa, Kansas; also a step-sister, Mrs. Maude Culler, Long Beach, California; one step-brother, Riley McKinney, Arkansas; and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and one brother, George. He was a member of the Iola Legion, who gave military honors at the grave.

Bert loved people, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

Funeral service was conducted by the Rev. J.E. Woods at Fairview Chapel east of Mildred, Friday, December 4. Mrs. J.E. Woods sang for the service accompanied by Mrs. Don Ray. Casket bearers were friends of Bert's boyhood.
