In 1979, when I was sixteen and already fascinated by genealogy, my parents and I journeyed from California to Abbeville County, SC to explore our roots. I remember visiting some very nice Barmores still living in the homestead built by William Barmore in 1825. I can also vividly recall Turkey Creek Baptist Church, knowing my ancestors had help build it and were buried there beginning in the 1790s.

The people and stories here were mostly gathered on that trip and then built upon with time.
