Samuel Bailey and Sarah Bryan Sightings

by Mark Cook

1) Page 208, "Bailey-Britton, History and Genealogy", by T. H. Bailey, Kingsport, Tennessee, 1962. This passage describes the meeting of Samuel Bailey and Sarah Bryan.

2) Page 557, "The Boone Family", by Hazel Atterbury Spraker, (repub 1922), lists a deed for the sale of Daniel and Rebecca Boone land (1764), Samuel Baily (Bailey) signs as a witness. We know that Morgan Bryan, Sarah's father is here at this time, now we know a Samuel Bailey is here too. This is not enough by itself, but this is another piece of the puzzle. (I am curious why Spraker does not list Sarah Bryan as daughter of Morgan and Martha Bryan. She writes a section on allied families, including the Bryan family, using "A History of the Pioneer Families of Missouri", as one of her sources, which clearly states Sarah as one the Morgan and Martha's children. Spraker provides a copy of Joseph Bryan's will, son of Morgan and Martha Bryan, to prove that Rebecca Bryan Boone is the daughter of Joseph Bryan, not Morgan Bryan as reported by other researchers.)

3) Page 345, "Southern Bailey's with Branches Upwards and Outwards", Vol. 3, No. 4, June 1995, Newsletter, by Donna Beers, 453 NW 171 Road, Warrensburg, MO 64093-7425, 816-747-0464, Samuel Bailey (William4, John3, John2, Stephen1), "He married, first, at Rowan Co., NC on ca1750 to Sarah Bryan; daughter of Morgan BRYAN and Martha STRODE", sources listed: Robert Perry, 2629 Wyman Rd, Fayetteville, AR 72701; Bailey bk p104 Felton Bill Bailey; ( I have not seen this book) Bailey-Britton Book

4) Page viii-ix in preface, "A History of the Pioneer Families of Missouri", by William S. Bryan and Robert Rose, St. Louis, MO, 1876, they list the children of Morgan and Martha Bryan Strode, "Their children were Joseph, Samuel, James, John, Morgan, Eleanor, Mary, William, Thomas, and Sarah." The author William S(mith) Bryan is the great-great-grandson of Morgan and Martha Bryan.

I know that the "Bailey-Britton, History and Genealogy" is available on micofilm from the Family History Centers. The rest I found I my local library, I do not know if FHC have copies. If you have any trouble or need copies of these pages, let me know, and I will look for the ID number that they use.
